Summer

by Travis Higgins

You wake up in the morning

And decide what to wear

When you walk outside

In the hot, summer air

The sun beams down,

Its warm rays

You forget your sunscreen,

And it burns your face

You drink an ice, cold glass

of lemonade.

The taste going down your throat

Makes you parade.

You hear the birds chirp

in the large oak tree.

While you play and get grass stains

on your knees.

You sniff the pollen

Into your nose

The slight breeze it flows in

Gives you chills down to your toes.

These are events that happen

On a wonderful summer day

Tomorrow you can live it

In a different way

Best Friends  by Quinn Weinberger

Best friends are like a gift

Given to you at special times.

Best friends are like a lock on a safe.

Keeping your secrets locked inside.

Best friends are a feather tickling my toes.

Making me laugh when I need it most.

They are a pillow and a blanket.

A hug when you need one and a shoulder to cry on.

A loan, a bank, a giving soul

Lending what they want for what you need.

They’re a smile stretched across my face

Putting it there when I need one.

And lastly, best friends are best friends.

It’s as simple as that.

A secret-keeping, pick-me-upper, party with ‘em

Soul sister.

“I Can’t Write A Poem” by Jacob Palmer

Forget it

I’m fooling everyone

I can’t write a poem

I’m still half asleep

I’m going to get sick

All over Nick

I wish I was home

Sleeping in a chair,

Because what’s really bothering me

Is Bryce’s hair

My dog pooped all over my stuff

A cop came and put me in cuffs

Uh-oh, time’s up

And all I got is this

Dumb list of excuses.

You like it?  Really?

Thanks

You wanna see another?

Butterfly by Meagan Conkle

Caterpillar up above

Wondering who you’ll become.

Flowers blooming in the spring.

Wind is blowing through the trees.

People playing in the leaves.

Wrapping up in the cocoon,

Waiting about a month or two.

Coming out all brand new.

Who would have known it was you!

Now it’s time for you to spread your wings and fly.

It’s time to take your first flight.

All the way up to the sky.

It’s time for you to live your life.

Caterpillar up above wondering who you’ll become.

Now I think it’s plain to see.

See who you turned out to be.

Broken Heart by Tifany Renee Piper

When I first met you, I thought, "What a fool!"

When I started to know you, I began to find you cool

When we became friends, I started to care

When we became more, I couldn't imagine life without you here

When we broke up, you broke my heart

When we tried again, I saw it as a brand new start

When you broke my heart a second time,

I realized you were never mine

And now I'm just here trying to heal my broken heart,

and trying to stop the tears

“Cassie”

I wish we could go back to the time when we were small

Where the greatest joy in life was kicking a ball

When we found bliss in ignorance

And nothing made sense

But we didn’t care that we didn’t know

We just wanted to jump in the puddles

And play in the winter snow.

Grandma’s cookies were the best gourmet,

All you wanted was to go outside and play.

We enjoyed the little things in life

Because we thought we would always be alright

We thought the greatest life achievement was

Learning how to tie our shoes,

And all we wanted was for our parents to say

“I love you.”

So, yes, I do act like I’m five years old

And compared to my real age, that’s young

But if I acted like everyone else

What would be the fun?

So, I’ll growl and scream.  Rawr!

At the turtle in the science room

I don’t plan on acting my age

At least not anytime soon.

“I Can’t Write a Poem”

I’m tired.

I don’t like it here.

I dropped my wallet!

Can I go looking for it?

I left my brain at home.

I feel sick!

Why do I have to be here?

I need my morning coke and video games.

Can I work on the laptop, netbook, or XBoc360?

Where’s my binder?

Come back binder!

The aliens took my notebook.

My parrot pecked my eyes out.

I rode my quad to school.

I left myself at home though.

Zombies tried to take my cat.

My octopus killed me.

I can’t find my cat!?

All I have is a list of excuses.

You like it? Really? No kidding.

Thanks a lot.

Do you want some more?

Simile Poem

My laptop is like magic.

My X-Box is my life.

My cellphone is a tome of numbers.

Lipgloss is like a rainbow of colors.

My I-Pod is a bank of songs.

By Nick Ferance

“I Can’t Write a Poem” by Cameron West

The wheels in my head have stopped turning.

The lead in my pencil has quit working.

The floating light bulb above my head has not been burning.

The fly on the wall is distracting.

The chewing gum around the room won’t stop smacking!

The girl next to me keeps texting.

The teacher’s keyboard is clicking and clacking.

The kids in the hall are constantly yelling.

The tips of my fingers are tingling.

The water in my eyes is watering.

The cars outside are humming.

The hunger in my tummy is churning.

The time is up?

Uh oh!  All I have is this dumb list of excuses!

“I Can’t Write a Poem” by Anna Rader

No thanks, I’m good.

I have to use the bathroom.

My pencil is out of lead.

I feel sick

I’m too cold

I have a test I didn’t study for

The eraser for my pencil is out

My books dropped

I can’t think of rhyming words

I don’t know what to write about

My shoe is untied

My paper got ripped

Someone’s talking

My earring fell out

Do I have to write a poem?

Time’s up?

All I have is this dumb list of excuses

You like it?  Really?  No kidding.

Thanks a lot

Would you like to see another one?

“I Can’t Write a Poem”

By Olivia McGee

I can’t write a poem.

Can I?

I don’t know which words to use.

I don’t know how to rhyme.

I can’t think straight.

My gum’s out of flavor.

I don’t wanna be here.

Tommy’s wearing Aeropostale

I have a quiz in math.

I have homework.

My mom’s sick.

My brother’s got wrestling

And I’m tired.

Will this day ever end?

Finally!

Time’s up?  Uh oh.

All I have is this dumb list of excuses.

You like it?  Really?  No kiddin’!

Thanks a lot!

Would you like to see another one?!:D

“I Can’t Write a Poem” by Daniel Brinker

I cannot write a poem.

My thumb hurts.

My brain hurts.

My paper’s ripped.

And my pencil’s broken.

The chair’s hard,

And the table’s rigid.

The room is white

Which shows it’s clean

The teacher keeps talking.

My desk is shaking.

The lights are off.

My teacher gave me writer’s block.

My pencil squeaks.

My friend won’t stop laughing.

Ahhhh!

Time’s up!  Uh-oh.

All I have are these excuses.

You like it?  Really?  No kidding.

Want to see another?

"Poems"
by Emily

A star shining bright
A rainbow through the sky
A tree blowing in the wind
A bird chirping as I sit in
the park, I read my book
A new idea comes in my head
A new poem comes out.

Extended Metaphor Poem
by Jonathan Cox
My books are like my drums.
My pencils are like my drumsticks.
My books are the hi-hat,
then the desk is my snare drum.
I tap my foot so it's like the bass drum,
that's what I do when I'm bored.

Love is a word hard to say,

You worry the other person does not feel the same,

Worry if it’s time to say it,

It swells in your head,

Never stops,

You keep wondering,

Today, tomorrow, a week from now,

I don’t know how or when to say this

             I LOVE YOU!

by Briana Enslen

"My Best Friend in the Mirror" by Emily
My friend is a duplicate of me.
She sits on the wall all day and all night.
She has my interests and looks,
my mirror image.
My beautiful self I never knew
was in me.
Me.

To My Brother

You may bug me to excess
or take my stuff and leave a mess
but though you sometimes cause me stress
Do I love you?
I guess.

Best Friends
by Jacob

Best friends can be awesome
but you must treat them with caution
if you don't, you will lose them
and you will feel some exclusion.
You don't want that to happen
or your enemies will be clappin
So you should cherish them
with all your might
and don't let them out of sight
If you do, they will get lost
so hold on to them at all cost
you will lose them if you don't keep in touch
So you should love them oh so much.
